SENATE NEW FORUM FOR "EQUALITY" BILL DEBATE
By Rev. Ted Pike
May 18th, 2019
The “Equality” bill, HR5, passed the U.S. House of Representatives, 236-173. Eight
Republicans joined the Democrat majority. As of this writing it has not been announced what
preliminary Senate committee(s) it will enter. After at least one hearing, the Bill, S788, will move
into the Senate Judiciary Committee, then to debate and vote in the Senate.
The surprising betrayal by eight House Republicans is a sobering reminder that the fragile
Republican Senate majority, (51-49, which includes two independents), might tip from solid
opposition to the “Equality” bill. Already, at least one Republican Senator, Susan Collins,
supports the “Equality” bill.
Lovers of free speech must call the offices of Republican Senators from their State. If you don’t
know who they are, Google “Republican Senators from your State”, or call your local Library.
But if you really want to fight for free speech you can call all the Republicans on the Senate
Judiciary Committee: Graham, Sasse, Kennedy, Grassley Hawley Blackburn, Cornyn, Tillis,
Lee, Ernst, Cruz, Crapo. Of course nothing prevents you from calling all Republicans in the U.S.
Call the Congress Hotline at 1-202-224-3121 and ask for a Senator’s office. I suggest you say: “Please don't vote for the “Equality Act” S788. It will help end free speech for Christians making
them criminals if they criticize Homosexuality”
Don’t fall for the lie that we have nothing to fear, since President Trump will veto it if it passes
the Senate. Passage by both Houses of Congress tremendously increases the “Equality” bill’s
chances of eventually becoming law. This could happen when, possibly, a Hillary or Biden sits
in the White House after the 2020 elections. For a concise understanding of the extreme danger
to free speech , religious and property rights posed by the “Equality” Act, please read my
