The arrest of seven Amish men for the “hate crime” of forcibly cutting the beards of rival Amish is the first major, well-publicized enforcement of the new federal hate crimes law. We may well be on the threshold of a level of police state federalism unprecedented in American history. All Americans should protest. The Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act authorizes the government to prosecute those it wishes to silence, particularly Christians and anti-Zionist members of the right and the left.

It allows the federal government to directly invade state law enforcement if it is suspected that “hate” motivated a crime of any degree. Such unbridled federal policing power violates our founding documents and the checks and balances they carefully establish. Without effective checks on federal power, we slip dangerously closer to a federal police state.

“Hate” is a concept defined by your point of view. One person’s “hate” is another person’s heartfelt religious conviction.

Today the government defines illegal actions motivated by “hate” as far worse than the illegal action alone; it is called a crime against communities, and against America itself. Hate laws punish a "crime" against society that exists only in the subjective judgment of those in power.

If you throw a rock through someone’s window because you’re drunk, that’s a crime. If you throw a rock through someone’s window because you hate their religion, that’s called a hate crime—and you may face triple penalties because of the thoughts that motivated your crime.

This is why the FBI now threatens seven Amish men with ten years in prison.

The Anti-Defamation League’s entire hate crime philosophy is based on the agenda of punishing and restricting primarily Christian religious “bias.” Today the hate law is enforced against fanatical Christians in Ohio who went astray. Tomorrow it will be enforced against Christians whose only “hate crime” is to hold those “biases” taught in the Bible.

Inventing Fantasy Crimes

Did the sons and followers of Bishop Sam Mullet really commit felonies? No. They intended to humiliate fellow Amish they consider heretics. Yet according to the federal government’s view of “hate,” they are to be tried and possibly sentenced to ten years in prison. If they had raped a woman in their community, they would face half that penalty.

Clearly, the FBI also has power to decide which “hateful” crimes should be prosecuted. This means a steady increase in legal precedents upholding ever-widening definitions of a hate crime. The federal hate law is one of the most dangerous systems of jurisprudence ever ratified in America—granting the FBI power to invade states’ rights in law enforcement and elevate the lowliest misdemeanors into felonies after which they will be punished to a vastly disproportionate degree.

Shaving a man’s beard is not remotely worthy of a decade in prison. This resembles feudal laws which sentenced to death a peasant who killed one of the king’s deer.

How Can We Fight Back?

How do we best oppose the federal hate crimes law? By militating toward repeal? Yes but that process is slow. The most immediate way is to speak out against the prime movers behind hate bill enforcement: ADL/B’nai B’rith International. Lovers of freedom must take every opportunity in church, on talk radio and online to inform others that freedom-destroying hate laws were created by Jewish supremacists who want to take away our freedom so their own globalist ambitions may be realized.

ADL/B’nai B’rith International and its members have established hate laws in 56 countries. They want to stay separate from worldwide criticism being vented against Israel. But we must hold them—and the secularist Jewish community that supports them—to the same scrutiny as every other ethnic and religious group in America, particularly Christians and Muslims.

Our best chance of holding back hate law enforcement is to send this strong message to the predominantly liberal Jewish community: “If you push your hate laws on us and criminalize traditional beliefs, it won’t just be Israel experiencing the world’s contempt. We will speak the whole truth about who has pushed this freedom-destroying agenda. We are not afraid.”
