Orthodox Jewish human rights groups continue to document that “rampant” pedophilia exists, primarily within rabbinic and educational leadership of Orthodox Judaism. * Yet as a result of pressure by such leaders upon Jewish laity not to report sexual abuse to secular authorities, many Jewish pedophiles remain free to prey on Jewish or non-Jewish children.

As revealed in a recent declaration by world-renowned Orthodox Talmud scholar, Hershel Schachter, even the highest echelons of Orthodox Jewish leadership continue to insist that, while pedophilia is against U.S. law, it should be primarily the concern of Jews, not secular authorities. Instead of confronting this problem directly, such authorities as Schachter, want rabbinic/psychologist boards to investigate, arbitrate and make recommendations before Jewish victims go to the police. “Agudath Israel of America, a prominent body of Torah sages, requires anyone alleging sex abuse by a fellow observant Jew to first report to the rabbis who decide whether the case should go to secular authorities.”

The cause of the pedophilia epidemic is also ignored. It originates in the encouragement of sex with children in the Babylonian Talmud, highest religious guide to Orthodox Judaism. I thoroughly document this in my article, “Pedophilia: The Talmud's Dirty Secret,” which include copies of passages from the Talmud endorsing pedophilia. Since Orthodox Judaism’s highest scriptural authority stimulates molestation of children by those most familiar with its teachings, it is understandable why Orthodox leadership insists on dealing with the problem itself.

It Should Be Criminal for Clergy Not to Report Pedophilia

Law enforcement, primarily in major Jewish population centers such as Los Angeles, New York, Melbourne and Israel, must demand reporting of child sex abuse by clergy, including rabbis, under penalty of law. No longer should powerful and politically connected Orthodox Jewish leaders be able to persuade secular authorities to dawdle, allowing the pedophile problem to mushroom. Certainly it would be out of the question to grant the Catholic church and its clergy similar privileges.

Consider: in 2009, anti-pedophilia activist and Orthodox Jewish New York Assemblyman Dov Hiknd said he had the names of at least 100 adolescent Jewish victims of sexual abuse that were unreported to the police. Yet, even after being subpoenaed, he refused to give them to authorities, claiming special privileges of the Jewish community to deal with such cases. As a result of law enforcement’s deference to Hiknd’s and similar lack of cooperation from Jewish leaders, in New York City alone many Jewish pedophiles are free to prey on the young. This means such molesters are probably not listed on sex offender registries. Instead they are free to abuse children in other cities, even internationally.

Summary:

It’s time for law enforcement everywhere, but particularly in U.S. major Jewish urban centers to make no distinction between a Jewish pedophile and a non-Jewish one. If Jews want to enjoy the privileges of citizenship in the United States, then, especially concerning a crime as serious and traumatizing to the young as child sex abuse, they should expect no exemption from investigation, prosecution and punishment as applied to everyone else. Today, some U.S. states require anyone who is aware of an instance of pedophilia to contact the police. Many states, however, require only social workers, medical and mental health professionals, teachers, and child care providers to report pedophiles. It must also become criminal everywhere in America for clergy to withhold from authorities the names of active pedophiles.
